The actual swim occurs on Wednesday, the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company auctions that year's foals on Thursday, and on Friday the remaining ponies swim back to Assateague.

The island includes two exhibitions: Beebe Ranch, and the Museum of Chincoteague Island.
