Route 220 is a Virginia State historic marker noting the passing of the surveying party of William Byrd II, who moved through the region in 1728 on his expedition to survey the dividing line between Virginia and North Carolina.

According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town has a total region of 0.9 square miles (2.4 km ), all of it land.

As of the census of 2000, there were 775 citizens , 310 homeholds, and 221 families living in the town.
